Macmillan Cancer Support hold an annual fundraising coffee morning – publicised as the ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’, where people across the UK come together to raise money to help people who have been touched by cancer. There are now 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer and by 2030, they estimate that this will more than double, and Macmillan want to be there for them all.

At Coast, we love any excuse to bake (and more importantly to eat cake!) especially when raising money for charity is involved, so as you can imagine, we were really looking forward to the Macmillan Coffee Morning. In the weeks leading up to it, the team shared recipes and plans for what we’d be making, and we even had a few practice bakes to sample!

On the day, we decorated our meeting room with bunting and balloons from the excellent fundraising pack sent by Macmillan and our table was groaning under the weight of all the delicious treats baked and brought in by the team. Some particular highlights for me were a delicious chocolate fudge cake, salted caramel cupcakes, a vegan lemon and blueberry drizzle cake, mozzarella and chorizo calzones, and cinnamon and Nutella swirl cake.

We all agreed that coffee and cake was a fantastic way to start a Friday and made even better knowing that we’d raised money for a great cause. We can’t wait to do it again next year.
