UK online population reaches all-time high

The total UK online population reached 31.8 million unique visitors in July, its highest ever figure, according to comScore’s World Metrix audience ratings service.

The news is of particular interest coming as it does during the UK summer holiday season; a period when media consumption traditionally dips. Instead the combination of bad weather coupled with the continuing popularity of online has bucked all trends to create another record growth figure.

The Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) has already reported that UK e-retail sales reached a record-breaking high of £4bn in July. The comScore report reveals in more detail which websites were the most visited.

The UK’s most visited property was Google, with 28.2 million unique visitors – an 89% reach of the total online population. It was followed by Microsoft Sites, which attracted 26.9 million unique visitors – a reach of 85%.

Online retailers’ eBay and Amazon also ranked amongst the UK’s largest sites, receiving 22.1 million and 12.5 million unique visitors.
