Growth in online spend remains buoyant
With the onset of 2008 early reports indicate continued growth in online shopping over Christmas. In fact there was a 27% rise in the number of customers buying online compared with the same period in 2006.
The figures are drawn from a poll taken by Actinic, a UK retail specialist. The figures demonstrate that online spend remains buoyant, and goes further to reveal that shoppers are spending more online, with a 46% increase in internet revenues.
The online channel is making a much greater contribution. Companies doing business online and offline indicate that over 50% of their sales in the last two months of 2006 were made online, up from 30% in 2006.
Overall the retailers polled were very confident that online sales would continue to increase. Chris Barling, CEO of Actinic stated: “Considering the effects of the US credit crunch, the Northern Rock crisis and the general overall decline in confidence, 46% is remarkable growth.”
