UK online banking more popular than ever

Online banking is on the up and up, according to new research by Financial Fraud Action UK.

The poll discovered that most internet users now bank online - with 95% checking balances and 83% accessing statements. Under 20% use the facility to make enquiries about their bank account.

Security, however, is still a major issue for online banking - fraud totalled £39 million in the half year to June 2009. That's a 55% increase on the same period in the previous year.

Despite these figures, Katy Worobec, head of fraud control at Financial Fraud Action UK, says that the chances of falling victim to fraud are low. She advocated that common sense steps should be taken to keep the risk low.

The surge in online banking ties in with the growth of eCommerce. Commercial life on the internet is not only blooming, but it's here to stay.
