New figures complied by communications watchdog Ofcom show that 23% of the UK now conducts a portion of their online activity from a mobile device.
Published in a report entitled Communications Market 2010, the statistics also show that using social media remains the most popular online activity and is increasingly being conducted via mobile devices.
Point-of-sale data from market research group GfK has shown that the UK mobile market is also bouncing back. According to the figures, sales were up 5.15% year-on-year for the second quarter of 2010 with a total of 7.5 million handsets purchased over the period.
Meanwhile, data from the largest independent mobile advertising network, Millenial Media, has shown that Apple remains in top position when it comes to serving mobile ads to smartphone users.
The iPhone maker served 55% of smartphone ads and 35% of all mobile ads in July, with its nearest rival Android accounting for just 19% of impressions. Millenial’s numbers also show that smartphones now account for half of all mobile ads.
