Irish ecommerce stats spell opportunity for UK retailers

If you have a UK or European ecommerce business, you might want to take a look at the latest statistics from the Emerald Isle - and then optimise some landing pages for Irish visitors.

According to Eurostat, 26% of Irish enterprise turnover is accounted for by ecommerce - the greatest proportion of any EU country. Indeed, 29% of those people in Ireland who shop online have ordered goods from the web within the last quarter.

However, there's a catch – 62% of those transactions were made with companies from outside Ireland (39% within the EU and 23% outside it).

Before you rush to target the Irish market, though, be sure that there's a demand for the goods and services you are offering. Reports released last year by Eurostat suggested that while many people in Ireland bought travel tickets and holiday accommodation online, only 5% shopped for electrical items.
