Britons spend 30 hours online weekly

The average person in Britain now spends 30 hours online weekly, according to a new survey released by uSwitch.

On working days, people spend approximately two hours using the web for work purposes, and a further three hours for pleasure. 67% of people now use the internet at work.

Part of the reason for such heavy internet use is the growing number of uses the web is put to. The study claims that 93% log on to use online shopping sites and 82% of us manage our finances on the web. In addition, a quarter of us use social networking sites once a day.

Communications specialist Jason Glynn put the findings in context: "Broadband is rapidly becoming a necessity - as important to our quality of life as gas or electricity."

The research is good publicity for uSwitch, which competes in a crowded market of rival utility comparison sites, such as compareandsave.com.

However, if you would like advice on targeting the new generation of heavy internet users, please contact us.
