Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has finally signed up for a Twitter account - and is attracting thousands of followers each minute.
Kicking off with an unobtrusive "Hello World", Mr Gates has so far confined his tweets to supporting the Haiti appeal. Unfortunately, though, Twitter today suffered an outage of over half an hour - leading some social networking wits to ascribe the problem to the social network's newest superstar.
It will be interesting to see what Mr Gates makes of Twitter over coming months - last year he quit Facebook because he was annoyed by the endless stream of friend requests. However, he's never been afraid of changing his mind: this is the man who famously said in 1993 that Microsoft wasn't interested in the internet, only to lead it to develop the world's most popular web browser, Internet Explorer.
